RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone, it’s a beautiful morning here in the Deep South, sunshine, blue sky and not too cool outside. The fur gang is doing well and ready to face another day. Mama, Hobo, Suzie, Peaches and Izzie are all very happy and content. This morning as I walked into the kitchen Izzie was in Sue’s lap getting his morning soothing massage. He will allow Sue to touch his tummy but no one else can without some objection and perhaps a slap from his paw. Anyway he was getting his morning attention and he was in hog heaven.
I have been feeding Hobo separately to keep her from eating the other girl's food. I have watched her tactics in that she will stand close to the feeding bowl waiting for her chance to step in and finish off what is left. This encourages Peaches to clean her bowl and Suzie will stand guard over hers until she gets tired and walks away and then she is dumb founded that her food is gone when she returs. Mama will allow Hobo to come and eat out of the bowl with her making sure she gets her share just like a mother would do for a child that is hungry. Since I have been feeding Hobo in a different room I am beginning to see her lose some weight.
The eye continues to improve as the vision becomes clearer and I am able to see objects that are close up. With the bubble in the eye it is like looking through jiggling Jell-O. But anyway I can see and that is great! The blood pressure is still a little elevated along with the blood sugar so an increase in the blood pressure pill was in order along with a little change in the amount of insulin I take. The Doctor wasn’t too alarmed about the situation because of the eye surgery and the healing process that is on going.
Dan is supposed to come home today from the hospital with his new hip. I hope he does well once he arrives at home and can relax in his own surroundings. Okay, Sue has plans for me this morning so I have to go and face the music, talk with you later.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Joel I am glad to hear your surgery was successful, sorry you had to go through it. The vision in my left eye has come back and will return to normal vision by 6-8 weeks, that according to the doctor. I thank God that I can see once again and will be able to judge distances and tell when there is a step down in the sidewalk.
Mama has been so attentive lately, making sure I am okay. She seemed more concern about the bandage over the eye than anyone else. She sensed something was wrong and began her vigil over me. Yes the dogs really are special and show their love and concern in many ways.

Good morning everyone. This morning I am dealing with elevated blood sugar and blood pressure, which is out of control. I don’t know what is wrong but I will see the doctor sometime today. I met with the City yesterday and work on the Memorial Walkway will begin next week. Right now I am so exhausted I want to go back to bed, but I know better than to do that. I will keep you posted as to what is going on later today.
Prayers for Dan and Lori in that they get to go home very soon.

I wish we lived closer so we could visit. Dan take care and don't sweat the small stuff, just take it one day at the time.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

There is so much going on right now I don't know where to begin. Sue's business is taking a life of its own and it is looking as if she is going to be very busy for a while. I guess I will be the step and fetch it guy, but that's okay.
Last night Mama let me know I wasn’t giving her enough attention. She had been acting kind of funny all day and last night she wanted to be close to me. I was sitting on the couch with Izzie and Peaches when Peaches decided she wanted to go outside. So I let Peaches, Hobo and Suzie out, but Mama stayed behind. When I approached the couch Mama came running and climbed on the couch and waited for me to sit down, she then crawled up and put her head in my lap, let out a long deep sigh and immediately went to sleep.
I began to think about Christmas this year as were celebrate the birth of Christ and thought that this will be Mama and Hobo’s first Christmas with us. I began to think about decorating the house and putting up a tree and the special ornaments we have saved with Fella, Levi and Charlie’s memories attached to them. Life is so short when you really stop to think about it. Both of my parents as well as my brother are gone, but what wonderful memories I have of them.
Last night I was thinking about my Grandmother and her making dresses for the grandchildren. She would go the general store where they sold all kinds of feed and seed for farming and she would carefully pick each bag with different designs on them. She would take the bags home and when the chicken feed was emptied out of them she would take the cloth bag and make a dress out of it for the girls and herself. I remember her sitting at a table for hours cutting patterns and sewing the cloth together with her old Singer Sewing machine driven by a foot pedal. Granny had a dog, I can’t remember his name, but he was such a part of the family. The dog was really one of the children’s, but you know how that goes, Granny did all of the feeding and taking care of it. So many memories packed into such a short life time, yet so rich and meaningful. Old Fella will always live in our hearts and his gift to us was the fact that he loved so much his second chance at life. Love goes a long way toward making life meaningful for those around us, what we share and give just by being a part of people’s lives.
There will be changes in the next few months that will touch those around us, I just hope that when these changes come Old Fella’s legacy will continue to be a big part of this community. Mine and Sue’s health is playing a big part in this decision that is coming about, I just hope that it will bring family closer together. I have to go for now, talk with you later.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

By now Dan Branson is in the hospital facing hip replacement surgery, Sue and I wish him well and pray that it is a success. It is still raining here this morning, but it is warm. The fur babies are all safe and dry with full tummies. The eye continues to heal with the irritation from the stitches becoming less and less.
I am a country music fan and this morning there was a clip of George Jones singing, “He Stopped Loving Her Today.” It reminded me of my short career at Nashville with GRT Records. I got to meet some of the great recording artist of the day and rub elbows with them. I was managing a group from Utah with a guy named John Bateman as the lead singer who sounded a lot like John Denver with a strong talented voice. That was thirty four years ago, but time flies when you are having fun.
Okay, I have to go for now so Mama and the gang can get in their walk if the rain allows.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

It is raining here in the Deep South this morning and the temperature is in the upper 60's. The fur gang has taken their spots in the house waiting to see if we go for a walk. I doubt if there will be any walking this morning unless the rain clouds go away, which is not likely.
I was just reminded that I have a doctor's appointment at 9:am, have to go.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. The eye is better this morning so maybe it will be okay until my regular scheduled doctor's appointment comes around. The lasting effects of the anesthesia is still hanging around however, maybe in a day or two all of this will be over. And things will get back to normal.
It looks as if we will get a visit from Ida very soon with rain and some wind blowing in from the Gulf Coast starting after midnight. This is a late season hurricane, but we need the rain. Mama and Izzie had a standoff this morning. Izzie wanted on the couch, Mama and Peaches were already there, so Izzie jumped up and squeezed into a tiny spot next to Mama. Mama wasn’t happy and sat up looking at Izzie in his boldness. Then Mama gave Sue and I that look of “I really don’t have to put up with this do I?” So Sue took Izzie and placed him on the bed in our bedroom and all were happy.
Suzie is doing fine with the leg this morning, no limp, no pain. I just finished my second cup of coffee and need to get going before fur gang starts getting anxious about going for their walk. The temperature outside is warm and will be a good morning for a walk, so I will go for now, talk with you later.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good evening everyone. Today has been a frustrating day with the eye. There is a stitch that is bothering me very much where the eye was sutured. Maybe I can go to the doctor tomorrow and let him have a look at it. Tonight Suzie was limping on her right rear leg, so I had her to lie down while I looked at it. As I straightened it out it popped as if it was out of joint, now she is walking without a limp. When she was about a year old she was having trouble with that joint popping out. The vet wanted to operate on the knee joint to give it a deeper socket, but I decided to see how she would do if left alone. This is the first time in two years it has done this. So I will watch her and see if it happens again.
Tonight I am beginning to see a little more light in the left eye, so I hope this is the start of the sight coming back. I hope everyone has had a great day and you are ready for the start of another week?

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning everyone. The eye is healing and I hope very soon to have vision in it to be able to know just how successful the surgery has been. The Doctor left a bubble in the eye to stabilize the retina until the eye has normal pressure without any other help.
All of the fur babies are doing well and looking forward to their morning walk. It's still a bit nippy outside as it was 39* this morning, but is warming up fast. Like I said in another post I hope to start on the Memorial Walkway this coming week and have it finished very soon.
Thanks for all of the prayers and concern about the eye, I am sure it made a difference.

God morning everyone. I am doing great this morning, can't wait to visit the Doctor to get this huge patch off so I can wear my glasses and gets his opinion of how well the surgery was after he looks into the eye.
All the fur gang is doing well as they come in from 49* and eat breakfast.. We still haven't seen a frost here at it is November 6th. Today's temp will be in the lower 70's again, great weather. Okay I have to get going and take care of some things so I will talk with you later.

We are back home with what the Doctor called a successful surgery. Tomorrow I go to the Doctor's office to have the bandage removed to see how much success was accomplished. Praise God I will be able to see once again with the left eye.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

The count down has begun and by this time tomorrow I will be in the hospital preparing for surgery on the left eye. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes and keep them coming. As I said in another post the memorial bricks are in and now I am waiting on the 30 blank bricks to finish out the walkway and hopefully next week we can begin the work. This has been a labor of love for Old Fella in keeping his memory alive. For years to come people will walk down the pathway leading into the park, passing by the statue placed there in memory of Old Fella. What an honor for an old black dog that once was "A very old stray".
Next year when the Good Sam RVer of the Year is announced there will be a changing of the guard so to speak. An era will be coming to an end and a new one beginning. Time stands still for no one and with its onward movement comes new moments to cherish for those who are recognized for their commitment to the community where they live. It is my hope and prayer that the new RVer of the Year is just as thrilled at receiving this award as I was last January.
Sue Bray and the Good Sam people are doing a great job in keeping the family theme alive in the Good Sam club. This is one big family that deserves all the accolades they get for the work they do in keeping honesty and integrity as its goal. Many good things have happened because of the caring people of this organization and it is my earnest prayer that as the years go by this theme is cherished and kept alive. I can personally say that Sue Bray and her staff are the best of the best, God bless you.

What kind of new camper are going to get Richard?
At this point it is up in the air? The only reason Sue and I are considering it is because of the interest in the old camper.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

The bricks for the walk way came in today, so I hope by next week we can start and finish the project. What I saw looked very nice as I opened one of the boxes containing the bricks and found each one wrapped separately from the others to keep them from being damaged.
I got my pre-opt done today for the surgery scheduled for Thursday morning. I hope this one will be the one that works. The Doctor was very optimistic Monday and believes this one will be a winner. Boy Mama is sure full of energy and mischief lately. This morning as I was trying to put my socks on she would grab the sock as I started to put my toes in it and run away from me throwing it about with her head. She feels so good and just loves to be around Sue and I so much. Last night as I watched the football game she got on the couch with me and laid her head in my lap, she didn’t move for three hours. Izzie usually likes to get on my tummy and sleep, but last night every time he would make a move to get there Mama let him know it wasn’t his turn yet.
It’s so strange about how things happen. When I went to the hospital today the nurse that helped me was a lady from Waynesboro that I have known for the past twenty seven years. Here she is all grown up with children. When I had a photography studio her mother would bring her and her sister in for pictures. Now they are both in the medical field and doing well. She asked me if I wanted to sell my camper as she and her husband had been looking at it as they drove by. “Hummmm” I said, Tell your husband to call me. If that works out there may be a new camper in our future?
